About the Role

  • This position is based in our Adelaide Office.

As the Communications Manager for South Australia, you will support the management of the global strategy, framework and implementation required to protect and enhance BHP’s reputation, to manage risk and to contribute to social value creation.    Reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs South Australia, this senior, highly experienced Communications and Corporate Affairs role leads a team responsible for South Australian Copper Asset communications. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Be a key strategic advisor on communications to the Asset President, General Managers, and senior leaders across the South Australian Copper Asset;  
  • Lead the team responsible for developing and delivering BHP’s communication and positioning strategies across South Australia;
  • Design and deliver the Asset’s communications strategy;
  • Partner with Corporate Communications to support the implementation of BHP’s Global brand campaign across the Region;
  • Drive the team’s direction, performance, planning and budgeting, with a strong focus on culture and capability;
  • Embed and continuously improve the Communication’s teams ways of working;
  • Participate in Asset-specific crisis communications as a member of relevant EMT/IMTs;
  • Drive and deliver external and internal content, including speeches and multimedia, for senior leaders across the portfolio;
  • Trusted partner to the South Australia Copper Asset President;
  • Deliver strategic counsel on employee engagement and communication issues;
  • Oversee the Asset’s social media strategy and content in partnership with BHP’s Digital team.  

About You

  • Strong people leadership capability with the ability to motivate, drive and connect a dispersed team. 
  • Senior experience in communications or related field.
  • Ability to align local strategies and tactics to regional and company-wide communications strategies.   
  • Demonstrate experience in a broad range of communications competencies including leadership communications, employee communications, media, digital communications, and corporate affairs.   
  • Superior issues management and Crisis Management skills.   
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  
  • High levels of integrity and discretion in dealing with sensitive issues.  
  • Proven ability to effectively engage with senior leaders including at Vice President and Asset President level.
  • Experience working in the resources or energy sector preferred, but not essential.
