ABOUT CANNINGTON 

Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead.  Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This is a permanent position on a 7:7 day/night roster, FIFO from Townsville, Brisbane, and Cairns, or DIDO from Mount Isa, Cloncurry, and McKinlay Shires.

As the Communications Technician, you will safely maintain communication infrastructure both underground and on the surface. You are responsible for the safe execution of preventative, corrective, and reactive work to the highest level of safety and quality to ensure equipment availability.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

  • Design, repair, and install communication equipment such as network links, DMR, fibre optics, and structure cabling
  • Program Motorola digital radios and repeaters 
  • Commission and intergrate new communication technology introduced to the site

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

  • Diagnosing and repairing fualts using tools such as Spectrum Analyzer and OTDR
  • Experience with 1SAP or similar
  • Embedding safe work practices and taking ownership of team safety
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal.

Qualifications for this position are: 

  • Certificate III in Electronics and Communications
  • EWP
  • High-Risk licence; Forklift, Doggers and/or Riggers (desirable)
