Barminco has successfully tendered for the exciting Bellevue Gold Project located approximately 40km north-east of Leinster in Western Australia’s Northern Goldfields region. Operated by Bellevue Gold Limited, Bellevue is one of Australia’s highest-grade underground gold mines, achieving commercial production in 2024 and positioned for significant long-term growth. 

This major underground operation combines industry-leading mining practices with a strong sustainability focus, including a hybrid renewable energy power station designed to supply more than 80% of the site’s power requirements through renewable energy sources. 

About the Role 

As part of this project, Barminco is seeking experienced and motivated Communications Technician to join the team on a full-time basis (7/7 FIFO ROSTER ex Perth). These roles are integral to delivering safe, productive and efficient underground mining operations at the Bellevue Gold Mine while contributing to the continued success and expansion of the Bellevue Gold Mine.Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor you will be required to support the delivery and maintenance of critical communications and technology infrastructure across underground operations.

What Does the role do? What to expect?

  • Install, commission, and maintain underground communications infrastructure including digital radio systems, fibre optic networks, leaky feeder systems, Wi-Fi mesh, and BLE technologies to ensure reliable mine-wide connectivity in harsh underground environments.
  • Support the deployment, integration, and fault-finding of mining technology platforms including fleet management systems, proximity detection systems, tele-remote operations, and environmental monitoring solutions.
  • Assist in the implementation and ongoing maintenance of tele-remote mining systems, ensuring stable, secure, and low-latency communication between underground mobile equipment and surface control facilities.
  • Conduct installation, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of underground IoT devices, smart sensors, and telemetry equipment, ensuring integrity of data acquisition and transmission systems.
  • Collaborate with mining operations, electrical engineering, and IT/OT teams to support edge computing devices, industrial gateways, and network infrastructure within integrated mining automation and IoT environments.
  • Monitor, optimise, and maintain communications and IoT network performance to support autonomous operations, real-time data streaming, operational technology systems, and data-driven decision-making across underground mining activities.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship across mining operations to support the successful design, deployment, and optimisation of technology solutions aligned with operational objectives, automation strategies, and business performance outcomes.

Our Ideal Candidate Background Includes 

  • Possess a Certificate III or IV in Telecommunications, Electronics, Information Technology, or a closely related field (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Current Open Cabling Registration (ACMA-compliant) with relevant endorsements such as:
    • Fibre Optic Cabling
    • Structured Cabling
    • Coaxial Cabling
  • Demonstrated experience in a communications or technology support role within the mining, resources, or heavy industrial sectors, ideally in an underground environment.
  • Proven experience in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of communications infrastructure such as fibre optics, leaky feeder networks, digital radios, and wireless technologies (e.g. Wi-Fi mesh, LTE, BLE & LPWA).
  • Current Working at Heights and Confined Space Entry certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid manual drivers licence.
