We are looking for an experienced Communities and Social Performance (CSP) Principal Advisor, to lead CSP planning and delivery across our Rio Tinto Aluminium (RTA) Pacific Operations. The portfolio covers an interesting mix of assets and local contexts, including:
· Two aluminium refineries and a smelter in Gladstone, Queensland
· Three bauxite mines, two ports and power stations in Weipa, Queensland
· One smelter in Tasmania (Bell Bay)
· One bauxite mine (refinery in closure) in Gove, Northern Territory
· One aluminium smelter -New Zealand Aluminium Smelter (NZAS) located on the Tiwai Peninsula in New Zealand
The role will also support our exciting decarbonisation efforts across Australia and New Zealand, and any growth initiatives associated with the portfolio.
As CSP technical lead for Pacific Operations, the role will develop and implement Group, RTA and asset CSP strategies and initiatives, strengthen CSP capability and provide leadership in building and maintaining meaningful relationships and partnerships both internally and externally.
Reporting to the General Manager CSP Pacific Operations, you will:
· Maintain strategic oversight of PacOps’ CSP performance – in relation to the development of strategies and plans, as well as Group and Product Group reporting and compliance
· Guide social risk analysis and mitigation for multiple sites, including use of risk management systems
· Engage with internal and external stakeholders on operational and project activities, including planning and supporting engagement with key stakeholders (e.g., government and industry bodies)
· Work collaboratively with site-based CSP teams to provide strategic and technical support in line with Rio Tinto’s revised CSP standard (2022)
· Monitoring and reporting of targets and commitments to the PacOps business
· Provide advice and CSP technical support to ensure PacOps sites are appropriately managing CSP risks, impacts and opportunities; and are nurturing the relationships and partnerships required to build and maintain the sites’ social license to operate
· Maintain relationships with the CSP Area of Expertise (AoE) to ensure PacOps sites are meeting required Group processes, reporting, assurances, etc.
· Work with the CSP AoE to bring in the relevant subject matter expertise where necessary (for example on complex challenges around human rights, cultural heritage, agreement-making, social investment, etc.)
What you’ll bring
· A commitment to the safety of yourself and your colleagues
· Extensive experience in social performance, stakeholder engagement, community relations or community development in a similar role (essential)
· Demonstrated experience in crafting strategies and delivering results, and an ability to drive CSP technical excellence
· An ability to work with, and communicate effectively across, all levels of the internal organisation
· Demonstrated expertise in implementing CSP standards and systems
· Experience in managing multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously, and the ability to prioritise workload
· Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
· Experience with risk identification and management
· Experience in managing complex, multi-stakeholder plans and projects
