This role presents an exciting opportunity to be part of Newcrest’s Social Performance team at Cadia mine; delivering a proactive and transparent stakeholder and community engagement program, to ensure Newcrest’s social licence-to-operate this world-class mining operation. 

Operations near and far

Who we’re looking for  

The Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for delivering on community engagement responsibilities for general operations, along with future project approvals.

This will involve the on-going development and implementation of effective engagement, consultation and communication strategies with the local community, stakeholder groups, media and regulatory authorities; with a view to delivering successful strategic engagement outcomes and regulatory approvals to support Cadia’s operations and growth strategies.

Other key deliverables of the role will include:

  • Developing and implementing effective stakeholder and communications programs to address community risks regarding direct (environment based) impacts
  • Track and record all external stakeholder engagements through Cadia Social Performance Management system and work closely with the broader Community and Stakeholder Engagement team to identify potential stakeholder impacts and risks
  • Developing work plans, budgets and reports as required from the Cadia Social Performance Management Plan
  • Coordinating Community Consultative Committee and Resident’s meetings, Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies, stakeholder groups, local councils and the community
  • Completing assigned environmental and community projects to appropriate timeframes and deliverables

About you:

You will have extensive experience or knowledge of external affairs, social performance, corporate communication and industrial and government relations management.

  • Tertiary qualification in a suitable discipline (eg: environmental / social performance, or similar) that supports robust community consultation and engagement on environmental and community risks
  • Relevant experience in a community relations/engagement related discipline, preferably gained in heavy industrial sectors in rural regions
  • Demonstrable experience in community consultation regarding environmental matters, communicating with a diverse range of rural stakeholders, running meetings, organising events and developing written communications for a range of stakeholder needs
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, whilst being able to positively engage and influence key stakeholders

This position can be considered under the Newcrest Flexible Working Arrangements Policy, for the right candidate; WFH or part-time considered.
