Newcrest is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Compliance & Permits Lead, to work with the Project Manager and project team members in ensuring that the Life of Mine Tailings (LOMT) Project maintains environmental compliance in alignment with the Cadia Continued Operations Project (CCOP). The role also requires ensuring the required permits and approvals have been identified, and working with Cadia Valley Operations, managed.
This position is offered as a 12-month fixed term position located at our Cadia Valley Operations site located in Central Western New South Wales.
Also open to remote working in Melbourne or Sydney, with travel required on an as-needed basis.

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Residential employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by wineries, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Who we’re looking for
The Compliance Lead shall be responsible for defining the LOMT Project requirements for permits, approvals and environmental obligations to implement project execution.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Develop and manages the LOMT Project’s Permits and Approvals plan and register.
- Assist with the development of permit applications for LOMT Project field programs.
- Co-ordinate the LOMT Project permitting requirements with the relevant CVO site team to ensure effective implementation and approval.
- Provide support to CCOP’s stakeholder engagement strategy in alignment with Newcrest’s policies.
- Co-ordinate the findings from environmental impact assessments with the LOMT Project team and ensures compliance whilst driving effective mitigation in the LOMT Project design process.
- Drive the consistent expectations, understanding and application of the workstream’s processes to enable compliance with business and local requirements.
- Provide guidance on the workstream’s risk management and mitigation.
- Maintain a close understanding of, and keep current with, legislative and regulatory developments at the federal, state and local levels to ensure it is accounted for in the permitting
- Ensure work is conducted using the appropriate risk assessment and risk management strategy in accordance with safety standards, frameworks and that behaviours are aligned to a culture of minimizing employee and community environmental risk.
- Ensure all projects are managed and implemented safely, consistent with practices to ensure absolute compliance to all regulations, laws, policies, procedures & standards.
- Foster a team culture and approach of zero-tolerance toward non-compliance.
You will also possess the following:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science with background in project compliance auditing
- Demonstrated experience in the delivery of compliance, permitting and EIS for large-scale mining / civil infrastructure projects within NSW – essential
- Proven ability to engage and manage stakeholders (internal & external) in a collaborative manner to influence positive outcomes
- Experience in developing strategies, plans and budgets.
- Manual Drivers Licence
