Condition Monitoring Technician Entry

Work Location: Hedland Operations - Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

Roster: 8D6R FIFO ex Perth or residential in Port Hedland

Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Engineer, the key role of the Condition Monitoring Technician (CMT) is to lead the daily condition monitoring activities across FMG’s Hedland Operations.

Through routine analysis of the condition monitoring data and strong engagement with site teams, the CMT mission is to predict asset failures and guide the Hedland Operation maintenance teams to get the right maintenance done at the right time. 

Key accountabilities will include;

  • Undertake vibration analysis on a range of equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors and pumps on fixed and balanced machines.
  • Undertake thermography inspections on a range of equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors and pumps on fixed and balanced machines.
  • Undertake Ultrasonic (Acoustic) Emission inspections on a range of equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors and pumps on fixed and balanced machines.
  • Report findings and make recommendations resulting from the condition monitoring inspections.
  • Work collaboratively with the Planning, Engineering and Maintenance teams whilst fostering a culture of continuous improvement to drive reliability best practice.
  • Monitor and maintain condition monitoring data to ensure data accuracy and quality remains at a high standard.
  • Identify and support the development and implementation of improvement opportunities related to plant asset health systems, including the optimisation of condition monitoring tools and techniques.
  • Continually search for ways to streamline and simplify maintenance and condition monitoring practices.

Qualifications and Experience;

  • A mechanical or electrical trade qualification with a background in mechanical or electrical maintenance of fixed and balanced machine/equipment.
  • Category I or II Vibration Analysis certification with a sound knowledge and experience in VA techniques.
  • Experience with SAP software and Emerson CSi 2140 data collectoion software (MHM) and associated equipment.

It would also be beneficial if you have;

  • Machinery Lubrication Technician (MLT1) or Analyst (MLA1) certification.
  • Ultrasonic (acoustic) emission certification and experience.
