About the role

This role is to manage and support effective daily planning and execution of construction works for the Yarwun RMA Projects. As the Construction Coordinator for the Capital Projects owners team you will provide supervision and planning to construction You will be responsible for ensuring that contractor teams actively achieve construction works to site safety policies and project QA requirements.

Reporting to the Superintendent RMA Wall Raise and working a 9 Day Fortnight, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the contract, the specifications, safety and environmental regulations for site,
  • Effectively coordinating and supervising on-site resources for the project,
  • Ensuring all workers are inducted to site and hold relevant qualifications and site-based competency for the works being performed,
  • Monitoring construction progress and compliance to safety and environmental standards,
  • Conduct in Field Critical Control Verification of Works being performed by the Contractors,
  • Conduct in field audits that works are being executed safely to the relevant site and project work standards,
  • Provide input into schedule performance through in field verification of schedule milestones,
  • Supports development of monthly schedule reports,
  • Supports compliance with standardised processes, systems and tools
  • Maintains the relationship with contracting and other project planning stakeholders,
  • Maintains relationships with the cost engineering and contract groups to ensure that implications of changes are well articulated,

HSE Accountabilities

  • Ensure all projects adhere to HSE directives.
  • Understand and comply with all legislative and RTA HSE requirements and incorporate as required.
  • Notify management of potential hazards/impacts and any potential HSE improvements.
  • Become involved in HSE activities and actively participate in HSE initiatives.
  • Report and participate in any HSE incident investigations as required.
  • Lead through personal example commitment to HSE; ensure 2-way communication with employees
  • Ensure project risk assessments are undertaken.
  • Avoid needless waste of energy and materials.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Minimum 5 Years Site Experience,
  • Site experience as a Leading Hand / Supervisor or Engineer (Civil or Mechanical preferred, Electrical also beneficial)
  • Demonstrated commercial experience includes planning up to 4weeks ahead,
  • Demonstrated Experience as Part of a Team
  • Strong Communication Skills,
  • Project Management Qualification beneficial but not required

Rio Tinto Aluminium – Yarwun Operations

With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.

Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialing new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).
