Contract Specialist

Newcrest is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Contract Specialist to oversee all aspects of contract administration for the planning and execution of the Cadia Integrated Tailings Project – a significant portfolio program of civil works execution; to safely deliver a major upgrade of the Tailings Dam for Australia’s largest gold mine at Cadia.
This long-term contract position (3+ years) will be offered either as a full-time 5/2 roster (Mon-Fri) to Orange NSW regional residents, or as a 12/6 roster for FIFO / DIDO workers.
Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Administer contracts, including preparing, reviewing, and analysing contract documents to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, laws, and regulations.
- Identify and mitigate contract risks and issues through the development and implementation of effective risk management strategies.
- Prepare and negotiate change orders, claims, and other contract modifications.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other professionals to ensure project requirements are met. Provide insights by way of cost, schedule, progress, commercial and change control that informs strategic and managerial decision making throughout the project
- Review contractor payment applications and invoices to ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.
- Manage and maintain contract databases and other documentation.
- Participate in project status meetings and provide regular reports on contract status and progress. Support third party/independent project reviews
- Continuously improve and streamline contract management processes to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory requirements relevant to contract management.
- Ensure project development is undertaken in accordance with Newcrest Gold Book and PMS requirements – including reporting.
The Contract Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the success of the project. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing large-scale projects, strong project management skills, and excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
You will also possess the following:
- Significant demonstrable experience in civil construction contract administration, with a focus on large-scale projects (infrastructure, roads construction, bulk earthworks or dam projects) - essential
- Bachelor's degree in commerce / finance / business administration, or related field - highly advantageous
- Relevant construction / engineering / project management qualifications (civil / mining / geotechnical) - advantageous, but not essential
- Detailed knowledge of contract law and regulations related to civil construction and familiarity with regulatory requirements related to civil construction projects.
- Proven track record of successful contract negotiations, administration, and management
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential roadblocks and develop strategies to mitigate risks and keep projects on track.
- Self-managed, motivated, and committed to working in a fast-paced environment.
