The Operational Excellence team at our West Angelas mine operations, is looking to recruit Contractor Management Advisor to support delivery of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s (RTIO) contractor management strategy across West Angelas and engage suppliers working with the contractor management system as it improves and evolves.

Reporting to the Contractor Management Specialist, you will:

  • Monitor contractor work for compliance with the 5-step CM process and RTIO HSE standards and policies (incl. attendance of PSIs and participation in LIF/QSI)
  • Coach and mentor of West Angelas company representatives in the 5 steps of Contractor Management
  • Assist West Angelas company representatives in mentoring of contracting partners and subcontractors in all aspects of RTIO policies and procedures related to contractor work
  • Support and assist department leaders with the Contractor Engagement Solutions systems (CES)
  • Participate in safety and procurement processes
  • Support department leads with CM data
  • Engage with contracting partners

This position will be offered on a fly in, fly out roster of 8 days on, 6 days off and will suit those living in Western Australia or those willing to relocate on a permanent basis. 

Where you’ll be working

Located 110km west of Newman in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, West Angelas operates on a fly in fly out roster from Perth, Broome and Busselton.

West Angelas is a pioneer in autonomous technologies – we were the first site to trial autonomous haul trucks and incorporate autonomous drilling into our operations in 2008, and we continue to have one of the largest mining fleets in the Pilbara.

Our high grade, low phosphorous Marra Mamba orebody is an integral part of the Pilbara Blend, contributing both lump and fines products on around four trains each day. At the West Angelas hub there are state-of-the-art power generation and refueling facilities. These facilities supply power and diesel fuel to the East Pilbara mine sites.

The future is bright at West Angelas with ongoing growth projects at Deposits C and D, as well as additional deposits under study providing enormous opportunities for personal development and career growth.

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Knowledge of contractor management systems
  • Tertiary qualifications (preferably degree qualified)
  • A diverse skill set and experience in one or more of the areas of operational leadership, maintenance leadership, procurement, communities, HSE, HR and Business Improvement
  • A passion for working with people and driving true partnerships with our suppliers
  • An ability to engage, influence and form productive relationships spanning several layers in the organisation
  • Previous experience in working with Pilbara Aboriginal Businesses, leading contractors in the field, being a leader in the mining industry, or working in contractor management is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement ability 
  • A strong commitment to health and safety
