Our Opportunity

 

Work Location: Perth – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people

 

Roster: Monday to Friday

 

Reporting to the Contracts and Procurement Lead, this is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering Fortescue's industry-leading Major Projects portfolio.

 

You'll be at the forefront of some of Australia's most significant mining and infrastructure developments, driving commercial success through strategic contracts and procurement expertise.

 

In this dynamic role, you'll lead the development, sourcing, negotiation, and administration of construction, procurement, and service contracts, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and with outstanding commercial outcomes.

 

From shaping tender strategies and evaluating complex submissions to managing contract performance and close-out, you'll influence every stage of the project lifecycle.

 

Working alongside talented project, engineering, legal, commercial, and supply chain professionals, you'll build strong stakeholder relationships and provide trusted commercial advice that enables successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of tender processes for major construction, procurement, and service contracts, shaping sourcing strategies that deliver exceptional value.
  • Drive commercial negotiations, securing favourable pricing, terms, and risk allocations that support successful project delivery.
  • Develop high-quality contract documentation, commercial evaluation models, and pricing frameworks that underpin informed decision-making.
  • Partner with project teams to identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks before contracts are awarded, helping set projects up for success.
  • Manage contract administration throughout project execution, including contractual correspondence, variations, payment claims, extensions of time, and contractor performance.
  • Provide trusted commercial advice and insightful reporting that enables informed business decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise commercial outcomes, improve procurement practices, and deliver sustainable cost savings across a diverse project portfolio.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, collaborating to achieve shared project objectives.
  • Share your knowledge by mentoring and supporting developing team members, contributing to a culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion governance, compliance, and best-practice contract management while helping deliver some of Australia's most significant mining and infrastructure projects.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 5+ years' experience in contracts, procurement, or commercial roles within mining, resources, infrastructure, or major construction.
  • Proven experience managing construction contracts across Civil, SMP, and EIC scopes.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement, tendering, contract administration, and commercial risk management.
  • Experience negotiating commercial terms and managing payment claims, variations, and extension of time submissions.
  • Solid understanding of construction project delivery, methodologies, and scheduling.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Proficiency in contract management and procurement systems.
  • A tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law, Commerce, Engineering, or a related discipline is highly regarded.
