About the Role
Nickel West is a fully integrated mine-to-market business. Our culture is rich with technical know-how, highly efficient and focused on innovation. The business employs over 2500 people from five operations across Western Australia comprising of nickel underground and open-cut mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery. We also have plans to expand our operations with new mines in the northern Goldfields and a large nickel sulphate plant in Kwinana.
A member of the BHP Group, Nickel West is undergoing an exciting business transformation to become a globally significant supplier of battery materials to the electric vehicle market. Nickel West will soon become the world’s largest producer of Nickel Sulphate, a key ingredient in lithium-ion batteries. As the world’s largest producer of nickel briquettes and nickel powder, Nickel West is leading the new-energy revolution in Western Australia.
Located 30 kilometres south of the Perth, the Nickel West Kwinana produces nickel briquettes and nickel powder. While many employees live in Perth, Fremantle and Mandurah, the Kwinana region is a thriving coastal township with three public beaches, excellent schools, modern shopping facilities and a wide variety of housing options.
This role sits within the site’s existing Control Systems team, and will liaise closely with various stakeholders, including Plant Operations, Process Engineering, Maintenance Engineering & Capital Project Delivery teams.
Reporting to the Superintendent Control Systems, this position will be responsible for the development and implementation of control logic and associated HMI changes required to deliver:
- Improvement projects identified by system users, process and maintenance engineers
- Capital projects executed by the site-engineering group.
- Ensuring appropriate engineering assurance and safety management is addressed for all your responsible projects
- Liaising with operations and planning personnel to plan and schedule the projects without impacting production
About You
You will have Tertiary Engineering Degree (Electrical / Control Systems) together with proven professional experience in control systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, and the ability work with a wide range of stakeholders throughout the business. You will have the following skills and attributes:
Solid experience in control systems roles, which includes programming experience working with the ABB Infi-90 (Bailey) / Symphony Plus / AC800M controller system ideally in a brownfield environment, would be preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders in the development of logic design from basic design briefs
- Proven experience is desirable in engineering, implementation and commissioning of process control applications
- Good understanding of Instrumentation and Control communication networks and protocols
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLC (SLC500’s, ControlLogix, CompactLogix) would be an advantage
- Experience with networking and virtual environments would be an advantage
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and Demonstrated, advanced written and oral English language proficiency.
- Perform and manage software integration and system modifications within the control systems.
