Title: Control Systems Engineer – Science and Technology

Work location: Perth based (Balcatta)

Roster: 5/2 roster

In support of Fortescue’s strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Green Commodity projects whereby we will develop and test a range of new technologies and processes.

Based at our new Balcatta Science and Technology facility, we are looking for an experienced Control Systems Engineer to work on a dynamic range of Green Commodity Development projects.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Report to the Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer to support the Science and Technology department on the control system design and implementation for a variety of green projects, including Green Iron and Hydrogen production.
  • Develop, test, commission and manage control systems around our Green Commodity projects.
  • Identify best practices related to instrumentation and process control and drive their adoption.
  • Work in close conjunction with other engineering disciplines working on green projects.
  • Review existing control systems and recommend upgrades and modifications based on value.
  • Complete work in adherence with specifications and safety standards.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor of Electrical, Control Systems or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • 3+ years’ experience with Control Systems.
  • Experience in significant control system design and execution projects.
  • Strong PLC Programming skills (DFB, UDFB, FB, ST and SFC), experience with Rockwell RSLogix5000 and Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal is highly advantageous.
  • Strong SCADA programming skills, experience with FactoryTalk and Citect SCADA is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with Networking and Communications (Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, Profibus) is highly advantageous.
  • Experience working on process plant projects is highly advantageous.
  • Strong conceptual thinking and analytical focus.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse stakeholders and in multidiscipline teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and be highly organised.
  • Ability to adopt to fast-paced and ever-changing environments.
