About the role
We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Coordinators (Production & Development) to join our team at Rio Tinto’s most technologically advanced mine.
This role presents a great opportunity for individuals with strong leadership and well-developed communication skills to work within a dynamic open pit mining environment. You will undertake a range of support activities to assist the Supervisor’s and enable them to lead the team in a safe and efficient manner. You will actively promote safety awareness and safe work practices with the aim of driving consistent performance and innovation in relation to safety, cost, and production.
You’ll be part of a supportive team, supported by your leaders to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team. You’ll work on an 8 days on, 6 days off, 7 nights on, 7 days off roster which will give you more time to spend on the things that are important to you and the people in your life.
Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you will be:
- Working and behaving in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to Our Values of Care, Courage and Curiosity
- Ensure the building and strengthening of working relationships with team members and key stakeholders to foster a culture of shared knowledge and common processes
- Ensuring shift members and contractors understand and comply with HSE working procedures
- Assisting in identify training and development needs for team members and provide feedback to the Supervisor
- Recommending changes to the Supervisor that impact the production of the shift; address to negate problems, or capitalize on opportunities, and carry out those changes once approved
- Assisting the Supervisor to conduct performance reviews by providing input to team members’ performance
- Undertaking acting duties when the Supervisor is absent and liaising with other departments and stakeholders in a professional manner
- Allocating tasks to crew members at the commencement of the shift in accordance to the daily plan, and throughout the shift in response to changes to work priorities
- Reporting on the performance of the shift and participating in handovers between shifts
What you’ll bring

- Demonstrated experience working in an open pit mining environment
- Experience leading an operational team (Coordinator, Pit Patroller or Acting Coordinator) is highly regarded
- Ability to multi-task, prioritise and negotiate as required accordingly
- Able to coach, self-reflect and put action into feedback
- A current Australian ‘C’ class driver's license

Where you will be working
Our $A3.6 billion Gudai-Darri iron ore mine is our most technologically advanced mine. In addition to leveraging technology already in use across Rio Tinto, such as autonomous trucks, trains and drills, Gudai-Darri also has more than 70 design innovations including a reclaimer with a rotable bucket wheel, a world class laboratory and in-field access to data and systems for all team members.
The Caterpillar mining fleet at Gudai-Darri includes autonomous trucks, production drills, and in a world first, autonomous water carts.
Located 110km north-west of Newman, Gudai-Darri will produce up to 43 million tonnes of iron ore a year in its first phase, contributing to our flagship product, the Pilbara Blend™. It will also become a production hub for our iron ore business, incorporating world class infrastructure and a 166-kilometre rail line connecting the mine to our existing network.
Gudai-Darri is creating jobs and business opportunities in Western Australia. More than 2,000 people have been employed as part of its construction with approximately 600 permanent operational roles created.
