About the core processing Area

The Core Processing Area (CPA) is responsible for the timely management, processing and dispatch of all diamond drill core at Olympic Dam operations. The work in the core processing varies and covers everything from logistics, core cutting, storage, dispatch, scientific measurement and project work linked to continuous improvement.

The Core Processing Area forms part of the broader Geoscience team that falls under Planning and Technical umbrella for Olympic Dam. The work conducted in the CPA plays an important role by delivering timely and accurate technical information which supports our technical teams make informed decisions about opportunity and risk in our unique operation.

About the Role

Reporting to the Superintendent Geology, the Core Processing Supervisor is responsible for the daily management and assignment of tasks to the Specialists and Technicians that report to them and ensure delivery of key outputs. The supervisor is responsible for ensuring their team safely meets production targets as assigned.

This position is based on an 8/6 Residential Roxby Downs or Adelaide FIFO camp roster located at the Olympic Dam Mine Operation. In this role you will:

  • Perform daily workforce planning to ensure the safe achievement of the teams’ key tasks and departmental KPIs
  • Inspect all work areas regularly throughout every shift and sign off on pre-start checks.
  • Ensure Field Leadership activities are proactively completed, and actions closed out as required.
  • Maintain an effective level of communication with all required stakeholders through meetings and reporting. Additionally conducting constructive handovers with opposite swing Core Processing Supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance to site standards and permits.
  • Submit notifications for maintenance activities and safety events.
  • Manage department budget and request quotes for goods and services, including the raising of purchase requisitions.
  • Proactively collaborate with Geology Superintendents to align team vision and strategy, implementing where required.
  • Ensure outlined techniques for data collection and quality are maintained to a high level that supports operational decisions.
  • Coordinate across crews and other departments in order to maximise value.
  • Utilise the BHP Operating System to enable continuous improvement within the department.

About You

You will demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable. Maintain a safety focused mind-set with the ability to apply standards and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership’.  You must have proven capability to influence and mentor others in HSEC principles and behaviours.

A broad understanding of the mining and minerals processing industry (with previous exposure to the mining and minerals processing industries in a similar role preferred).  You will also possess:

  • Experience in leading teams.
  • Proficiency in communicating effectively across multiple business levels and disciplines with ability to build rapport with internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Knowledge of SAP or similar application for raising notifications and reporting purposes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and demonstrated use of maintaining database systems.
