We are looking for a Corporate Counsel to join Rio Tinto Legal in supporting Rio Tinto’s Pilbara Operations.

To be successful in this role you will;

  • Deliver high quality, independent and timely legal advice and support to Rio Tinto’s operations in Western Australia across a wide variety of aspects that are of corporate, commercial and operational significance
  • Supporting commercial teams including business development, joint ventures, social performance, operations and a diverse range of commercial contracts and arrangements
  • Coordinate and engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting tenure, approvals and land access arrangements, including proceedings before the Wardens Court
  • Liaising with the APAC Litigation team and Group Risk Finance in supporting litigation and disputes
  • Provide cost effective engagement and management of external counsel
  • Support internal reporting as well as governance and compliance functions and frameworks.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • At least 5 years’ experience as a practicing lawyer, preferably with experience in natural resources
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Tertiary Qualification in Bachelor of Law or equivalent and must hold a current legal practicing certificate
