About the role:
We are looking for an experienced lawyer to join our global legal team helping deliver end-to-end legal support for $30b+ of annual projects, construction and procurement activity.
Your role will include the following:
Provide timely, accurate and commercially focused support for projects and procurement contracts.
Manage and prioritise multiple legal work streams across varied categories, stakeholders and jurisdictions.
Develop and maintain close, collaborative working relationships with internal stakeholders across projects, procurement, operations and other related functions.
Work collaboratively and support other members of the broader Rio Tinto LGC&A function.
Manage external legal resources in strategic and cost-effective ways to deliver the best outcomes for the business.
Support continuous improvement initiatives, including legal process improvement and appropriate use of AI.
Develop and provide stakeholder training to support capability development initiatives.
About you:
A commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself and your team.
A law degree and at least 8 years’ post-qualification experience.
Strong construction and projects experience is essential, including familiarity with SOPA, adjudication processes and a range of contracting models such as D&C, EPC, EPCM and BOOT.
Experience in commercial contracting, project delivery, and resources or infrastructure matters will be highly regarded.
Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across multiple complex matters.
Excellent communication, drafting and stakeholder management skills, with strong attention to detail and organisational capability.
Interest in leveraging AI and legal technology to simplify work, improve efficiency and support high-quality legal outcomes.
Strong commercial acumen and a solution-focused approach, with the ability to identify practical outcomes and negotiate effectively.
Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships, influence stakeholders and partner effectively across legal and business teams.

Based in Perth, you will be joining Rio Tinto LGC&A, working in a high-performing legal team supporting Rio Tinto’s Projects and Global Procurement functions. You will work across a range of assets, operations and strategic legal issues, while collaborating closely with internal clients, business stakeholders and colleagues across legal and related functions.
