About the role
We are looking for a Commercial Lawyer who will be part of the integrated model providing legal support for global procurement. Your role is to support these teams in the delivery of high quality, independent and timely legal advice on issues affecting the Rio Tinto businesses globally (with a primary focus on Australia and the Pacific Region).
The role will be part of the team responsible for provision of legal support across a number of categories including construction, raw materials, global indirects, utilities and biofuels. You will also support other categories as needed. The role includes supporting the Global Procurement team with implementation of contracts as well as managing contractual issues that arise, including through informal dispute resolution.
You will also contribute to the continued development of processes and documents to support the commercial legal team and global procurement and help and mentor junior lawyers.

What you’ll bring
- Minimum 10 years’ post qualification experience as a lawyer within a large corporation or top-tier law firm (international experience would be an advantage)
- Experience working with construction contracts and/or utilities (including gas sale agreements) will be highly regarded
- Demonstrated ability to work in a global environment
- Strong commercial acumen and a solutions driven approach
- Proven practical experience in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts
- Excellent collaboration and communication (written and oral) skills
- Effective time management and personal organisational skills
- A positive and agile mindset with a strong ability to foster change
