ABOUT PERTH OFFICE

South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE 

This role is a permanent position on a Monday-to-Friday basis. This role will be based at our head office in Perth.

As Corporate Legal Specialist you will be part of the Corporate Legal team and will be responsible for providing direct and independent practical legal support, leadership and advice to South32’s Corporate Functions and ensuring that legal risks are identified and managed in accordance with the values, strategy and commercial objectives of South32.

• Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Provide legal support in relation to merger, acquisition and divestment activities
• Support South32’s business development activities, including Greenfields exploration and management of South32’s royalty portfolio
• Provide independent legal advice on strategic and complex corporate and commercial matters, energy & resources mining projects, business risks and strategic opportunities

ABOUT YOU 

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Minimum 5 years’ experience within an in-house legal department and/or a top tier law firm in Corporate, Commercial or Mining/Resources law
• Experience in mergers and acquisitions in the mining sector, mining joint ventures, and early-stage mining exploration projects would be highly regarded
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills (crisp, confident, clear and succinct) with personnel at all levels (including senior management)
• Demonstrates a willingness to take responsibility and lead outcomes
• Strong experience and skills in transaction document development, drafting and negotiations with counterparties

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Tertiary qualifications in law & current Australian legally qualified and practising lawyer
