Fortescue’s HaulX team develops and delivers world-leading autonomy, electrification and fleet management technologies.
Reporting to the Lead Cost Controller, the Cost Controller will coordinate cost control, financial reporting and commercial governance across the HaulX program. This role will provide accurate and timely cost information to support informed decision-making, maintain financial discipline and ensure the program remains aligned with approved budgets and governance requirements.
Working closely with project managers, Finance, Procurement and commercial teams, you will manage forecasts, commitments, actual expenditure and cost risks across the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Support cost management systems, processes and procedures covering budget tracking, forecasting, cash flow and performance analysis
- Coordinate project cost and progress reporting, providing accurate and timely information and identifying actions required to maintain approved baseline targets
- Support the application of project Work Breakdown Structures across systems, processes and reporting
- Assist Procurement and Contracts teams with contracts, purchase orders and payment certificates, including setup in PIMS and SAP
- Review invoices, establish accruals with supporting documentation and allocate expenses to appropriate cost centres and Work Breakdown Structures
- Forecast costs to complete, identify cost risks and support actions to mitigate potential budget overruns
- Prepare monthly cost reports, variance analysis and clear management commentary
- Support project change management and quarterly capital planning processes
- Apply earned value management tools and techniques to monitor progress and provide insights into project performance
- Evaluate contractor progress payment claims and monitor PIMS and SAP data to maintain cost accuracy and escalate significant variances.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance or a related discipline
- Project management or internationally accredited project controls certification
- At least three years’ project controls experience within a resources environment, preferably supporting major capital projects
- Experience reporting and managing cost components across small to large-scale capital projects
- Sound understanding of project controls principles, processes and techniques
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with project stakeholders and supporting functions
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with PIMS cost systems is desirable.
