About the role

We are looking for a Crew Leader to join our Reduction Lines Team. This is a leadership role taking accountability for the direction of the team, providing coaching and feedback to team members, and delivering in a safe, agile and effective manner.
This is a great opportunity for a strong communicator that engages well with people. You must be able to perform well under pressure as you need to be able to work across multiple interfaces and have the ability to prioritise based on business value. Reporting to Superintendent – Reduction lines 1 &2 and working a 4 on, 4 off (days and nights) roster; some of the responsibilities will include:
- Leading the Crew in a way that ensures that the performance of the team meets or exceeds plan
- Create a culture within the Crew which is aligned to the specific business objectives, and to display behaviours consistent with Rio Tinto values and vision.
- Deliver operational excellence by identifying and implementing improvement initiatives.
- Coordinating and supervising shift related production activities on a daily basis
- Managing the safety and quality aspects of the team and related job tasks
- Setting priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinates work activities with the other key stakeholders
- Developing relief Crew Leaders and other required capability within the team
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Ability to liaise with and communicate with a range of stakeholders
- A passion for people and values-based leadership and experience in leading teams (permanent or acting)
- Knowledge of the aluminium reduction process is preferrable but not essential
- Good problem solving and prioritization skills
- Computer literacy including exposure to Microsoft Word, Excel and SAP
- Ability to work 12 hour shifts doing a mixture of days and nights (attractive shift allowance paid).

Where you will be working
Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL)
Opened in 1982, Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20 kilometres south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.
Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
