About the Role
The role can be based in Australia (Perth or Brisbane), Chile (Santiago) or Canada (Saskatoon)
In this dual role, you will be supporting the Data Utility Team with their engineering efforts and shape the architectural design patterns for data engineering across our organisation in collaboration with these teams. You will play a pivotal role in enabling data-driven decision-making and ensuring data availability, scalability, and reliability.
The key aspects / responsibilities of this role are:
- Help identify pain-points, issues and gaps in technologies and drive alignment where possible
- Contribute to align strategic direction for data engineering at BHP
- Understand customer data requirements, develop and model data structure, and design and build the ingestion process to provide access to data from operational and enterprise source systems
- Design and development of data integration and data pipelines (ETL).
- Work with various on-prem and cloud-based data platform teams to help identify technology capability gaps in and assess new technologies.
- Work closely with the Enterprise & Global (E&G) Data Utility team to evolve the E&G data utility platform / framework to meet the needs of our customers.
About You
- Proven experienced in multiple database technologies such as Distributed Processing, Traditional RDBMS, MPP, NoSQL.
- Strong experience in traditional data warehousing / ETL tools (Informatica, Talend, Pentaho, DataStage)
- Good knowledge of data modelling (i.e. ERDs, Star Schemas, Snowflake schemas, etc.)
- Experience with AWS cloud services: S3, EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift and Kinesis.
- Working experience in back end software development (Python, Scala or SQL or Java)
- Experience with software development techniques and tools such as GitLab for source control, CI/CD, etc.
- Experience in at least one of the following MuleSoft, Solace and Streamsets is beneficial
