About the Role:

The Data Management Principal is critical in ensuring that data provided to the customers and used by all teams is continually improved and is fit for purpose.  Allowing stakeholders to enable data driven decision making across the organization.

The Data Management Principal’s primary accountability is managing the Data Virtualisation DevOps Service globally and team to ensure business objectives are met.  The team will be accountable for advising on strategic capability improvement, designing, implementation, and operations of Data Virtualisation Service for BHP.  They will ensure alignment by the broader BHP organisation to business process, and data standards for Data Virtualisation service (Denodo tool).  Including keeping alignment with our BHP Data Strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for setting strategic direction of the Data Virtualisation service.  Building strategies and roadmaps to ensure business needs are meet in both capability uplift and operational service.
  • Work with the customer requirements in order to produce and maintain artefacts such as Conceptual Data Models (CDM) and Logical Data Models (LDM), Business Glossary, Data Dictionary, Data model release documentation, and data mappings.
  • Represent business concepts, their definitions, properties, and relationships using appropriate models and diagrams for consumption across service uplift and operational performance.
  • Explain and champion data model changes and data projects for change with business stakeholders.
  • Ensure data standards are executed and governed.
  • Ensure all metadata for models are captured correctly, including data definitions, business rules, data quality requirements.
  • Learn and collaborate with stakeholders within the organisation to develop agreed outcomes and business objectives.
  • Ensure DevOps team ways of working at managed, including daily stand ups, weekly stand ups, and month meetings and retrospectives.
  • Anticipates changes in business/stakeholder requirements and coordinates and conducts peer reviews with subject matter experts and stakeholders to validate requirements and business objectives.
  • Drives the use of automation and advanced analytics to future proof solutions.
  • Perform other Data Service-related activities as allocated, ensuring quality of outputs in terms of time, cost and business benefit.
  • Ensure full utilisation of Data Virtualisation DevOps team, in the full process.  Manage strategic partnerships with vendors and stakeholders to ensure lifecycle management and planning is fulfilled.
  • Work with various on premise and cloud-based technologies.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, a curious mind, and creative problem-solving skills to generate business value
  • Experience in planning and executing work using a disciplined approach in an agile environment, including task management to achieve project goals
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate analytical results to technical and non-technical audiences
