About the role 

The Brisbane Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) is an integral area of our Integrated Operations and is crucial in the future success of our Pacific aluminium business. The team is responsible for driving the optimisation of the overall ‘mine to market’ value stream using state-of-the-art monitoring processes and data driven decision making.

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join the Production Improvement team who will help us leverage a large variety of data to improve the performance of our mining, processing & export assets.

The role is a great opportunity for someone who is intrigued by challenging data problems and developing creative solutions working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This will require applying data analytics techniques to deliver significant value to the operations centre. Reporting to the Superintendent Production Improvement, you will:

• Work closely with a wide variety of stakeholders within the operations centre, operational sites & central hub teams to scope, develop & embed projects
• Deliver data-intensive analytical projects as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
• Support the day-to-day operations by providing analytical insights to system challenges & constraints
• Leverage Cloud based services to deploy analytics models
• Foster an environment to grow data analytical capability within the teams through coaching & sharing skills
• Travel to our operational sites several times a year

About you 

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• Project management experience (scoping, stakeholder engagement, change management, delivery & embedding)
• Experience using relevant languages & tools (e.g. Python, R, etc.)
• Experience with data ingestion (e.g. SQL, PosgreSQL, API, etc.)
• Ability to convey a message with data using visualisation tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, R Shiny, ggplot, plotly, matplotlib, D3, etc.)
• Understanding of major types of analytics approaches (e.g. regression, time-series, classification, clustering, etc) and their implementations (e.g. k-means, linear regression, random forest, etc.)

It will also be beneficial if you have:

• Experience in mining, processing or logistics
• Experience with operational systems (e.g. Scada, Ampla, Wenco, Modular, Minestar, Minecare, etc.) and time series data stores (e.g. PI historian, Honeywell Historian, etc.)
• Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g. Azure or AWS)
• Experience with Git code management (e.g. GitHub, Bitbucket, Azure Dev Ops, etc.)
