Yancoal Australia is Australia’s largest pure play coal producer. It boasts three tier one thermal coal mines in New South Wales together with interests in three other metallurgical and thermal coal mines located in New South Wales and Queensland.  Yancoal Australia also manages five other Australian coal mines on behalf of related parties. Yancoal currently employs over 4,000 people across its operations. Our Ashton Coal Operations include an underground mine and coal handling and preparation plant, located in Camberwell.  The site operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy to directly contribute to the safety and operational functions at Ashton Coal Operations.

Applicants must have a strong commitment to working safely, be a self starter, pro active, results oriented and focused on maintaining the high standards in place at the mine.

Reporting to the Shift Undermanager, some of the responsibilities for the Deputy will include;

  • Manage, plan and organise resources for your area of responsibility
  • Maintain and enforce regulations, standards and systems of work developed for the mine to deliver a safe and productive crew performance; and
  • Work closely with the Engineering team to ensure all aspects of maintenance operations are implemented to maximise equipment availability.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrated the following skills and experiences:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a front line leadership role
  • proven commitment to safety
  • Strong working knowledge of the Coal Mining Health and Safety Legislation

This will be complimented by a Certificate of Competence (Deputy) or equivalent.
