Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Mine Technical Services is seeking an industry experienced, mining degree qualified Mine Design Engineer to join their West Angeles operations team in the Pilbara.
The role is responsible for producing and managing the site’s mine design. Working in a challenging and exciting environment within Mine Technical Services you will help deliver mine plans that align with long term strategy and clearly deliver value, address bottlenecks and convert opportunities across the value chain. You will have a strong focus on continuous improvement, be passionate about making sustainable improvements and be accountable for on site design changes and approvals.
Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will:
- Be the key stakeholder to aid the Mine Specialist Engineer to deliver the quarterly plan
- Manage and deliver site project work, which enables mine plan conformance
- Be responsible for the quarterly plan reconciliation process
- Prepare quarterly plan inputs, parameters and context sessions
- Complete pit development planning – driving the key milestones upon which production targets depend
- Generate monthly conformance reporting as a feedback loop for planning and implementation improvement
- Provide mine design support
- Offer support and coverage for other roles in the site planning team
This permanent position will be offered on a fly in, fly out work schedule of 8 days on site and 6 days off, out of Perth and will suit a Perth resident or someone willing to relocate to Perth on a permanent basis.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you must demonstrate the following skills:
- Relevant mine planning experience (short term and medium term); with a strong focus on key milestones, operational constraints and production risk mitigation
- Promoting health and safety initiatives and contributing to a positive safety culture
- Excellent communication and proven experience in working well with teams
- Open pit mining experience
- Mining Degree qualification with relevant mine planning experience; with a strong focus on key milestones, operational constrains and production risk mitigation
- Strong software skills (experience in Alastri products and Maptek Vulcan desirable)
You will be a Perth resident, or someone prepared to relocate to Perth on a permanent basis. Full and unrestricted eligibility for employment within Australia is an essential requirement.
