About Olympic Dam
One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.
About the Role
We are currently looking for a Metallurgist to join the Technical Development team on site at Olympic Dam.
Reporting to the Superintendent – Processing Development you will be part of a team responsible for developing and executing both operational and CAPEX projects targeted at driving increased revenue, reduced variability and improved cost efficiency across the Refinery and Precious Metal Recovery unit operations.
This position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on a 5/2 4/3 (with flex) offering FIFO, DIDO or residential roster arrangements.
In this role you will:
- Focus on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader and engaging the Operational teams
- Foster effective and productive working relationships across all internal and external stakeholders
- Exercise a proficient level of technical knowledge and expertise to independently make informed decisions
- Conduct investigations into plant performance issues to identify opportunities for improvement and implement sustainable solutions
- Deliver significant value by identifying and implementing improvement initiatives in safety, throughput/recovery and cost.
- Undertake plant trials whilst engaging closely with your operations stakeholders. You will conduct detailed statistical analysis to provide meaningful and significant insight into the success of those trials
- Deliver small scale CAPEX projects from project initiation, selection and design through to construction and commissioning for handover to Operations
- Provide metallurgical support for larger scale CAPEX projects across their project life cycle from initiation through to handover to ensure the project delivers on its metallurgical performance requirements
About You
We have a strong focus on finding individuals with the right values, technical and leadership capability, and communication skills. Your interpersonal skills will foster strong working relationships and with your ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude. Your experience will include:
- Degree qualified in Metallurgy, Chemical or Process Engineering.
- Demonstrated background in providing metallurgical support and delivering continuous improvement initiatives across Concentrator, Hydromet, Solvent Extraction, Electrowinning, Electrorefining and Gold unit operations is highly regarded.
- Exposure to developing and executing capital projects or operational metallurgy is highly regarded
- Understanding of lean concepts and practices in manufacturing is highly regarded
