About the role
Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Mine Technical Services is recruiting to fill vacancies for the newly developed position of Development Technician to support their Drill and Blast Operations teams at Rio Tinto’s Yandicoogina and Paraburdoo Pilbara mine site operations in regional Western Australia.
This is a true career development opportunity for mining industry experienced people who can demonstrate proven capability across mine planning and experience in large-scale open pit surface mining operations.
Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, Mine Technical Services, key responsibilities will be to:
- Ensure all Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards, policies and procedures are adhered to
- Undertake blast vibration installation, monitoring and data capture and drill and blast data entry
- Assist with blast filming and prism placement
- Support radar deployment, troubleshooting, maintenance, site liaison and logistics
- Monitor crack meter, subsurface, and other monitoring installation, operation, and maintenance
- Undertake pit hazard inspections, geotechnical data collection and processing
- Inspect drone flights and panoramas (weekly)
- Act as UAV spotter and survey assistant
These permanent positions will be offered on a fly in fly out roster 8 days on, 6 days off from Perth in Western Australia to support our MTS teams at the Yandicoogina and the Paraburdoo mines (being residential at Paraburdoo an option).
About you
To be considered suitable for this position you will have:
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Previous site-based experience within a large-scale open pit surface mining environment
- Understanding of mine planning with an interest in career development within drill and blast
- Knowledge of mining and business software such as MS Office and Vulcan
- A current and valid manual C Class Driver’s Licence
- Full unrestricted eligibility for employment in Australia is essential
