About the Role

Reporting to the Supervisor, Auxiliary Maintenance, we have a number of vacant roles that will play an essential part of undertaking maintenance of a wide variety of auxiliary assets working across both our Mining Area C and South Flank operations. 

You will be based at our ‘Area C’ mine site on a fly-in fly-out 2:1 (1 week days, 1 week nights, 1 week off roster).  Our Area C mine is located approximately 100kms North West of Newman, West Australia. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO village include; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, netted cricket pitch, tennis and basketball court, beach volleyball court and recreation room including a pool table, darts, table tennis, TV and DVD player. All rooms at the village have their own ensuite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.   

There is also the opportunity to take advantage of BHP's flexible work arrangements with the capacity to work 75% of a full time roster, for those that this may suit.

In addition to excellent camp facilities you will be provided well a well maintained workshop facilities with quality parts and equipment. You will enjoy supportive, experienced supervisors and senior leaders who will encourage and support your career journey within the department.

 In this role you will:-

  • Provide the highest level of diagnostics, repairs, maintenance/service to a fleet of LV’s, Lighting Plans, EWP’s, Forklifts, Trucks (Scania/Fuso’s) and other critical equipment within the Axillary department to ensure the efficiency of operations of Area C and South Flank are not compromised
  • Identifying and rectifying faults during inspections
  • Testing engine safety, part upgrades, troubleshooting breakdowns, performing preventative maintenance and repairing faults
  • Initiating updates to work procedures to ensure they are accurate and relevant to equipment 
  • Providing input into root cause analysis and subsequent resolution of issues affecting equipment reliability
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and assist in the implementing of the new initiatives in a constructive way
  • Use of computerised maintenance systems (SAP), including time confirmations, raising notifications and closing work orders.
  • Take personal responsibility for helping the team achieve expected results by doing what is required and taking timely actions within the scope of competence without being supervised.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, review and amendment of Quality Assurance documents as required.
  • Undertake training on a regular basis and provide support and coaching to work mates within area of competence.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and assist in the implementing of the new initiatives in a constructive way.
  • Responsible for quality routine inspection, maintenance and corrective repair of fixed plant equipment.
  • Contributing to our safety and continuous improvement culture, BHP Operating Systems (BOS), by being pro-active and demonstrating a commitment to high standards of execution within your trade.
  • Proficiency with computer based planning systems, ideally 1SAP & Fiori
  • Demonstrating a focus on safety, achievement and team engagement in all aspects of work
  • Following specific maintenance programs and procedures and carrying out checks on equipment as required.
  • Complete Field leaderships as per KPI.
  • Work in a small team of changing conditions where performance matters and improvements are encouraged
  • Foster team-culture of trust and respect, working to achieve mechanical/technical and logistical challenges as a team and individually, fostering lasting relationships within their immediate crew and wider team of stakeholders in which diversity is embraced at BHP
  • Demonstrate & practice a deep understanding and knowledge of working the safest way always, and the ability to speak up, be observant and ask questions

BHP WA Iron Ore is one of the world's leading suppliers of iron ore. The Company's operations currently involve an integrated system of seven inland mines, more than 1,000 kilometres of rail and two separate port facilities; Nelson Point and Finucane Island at Port Hedland.

About You

If you have worked or are new to a maintenance role and believe that your maintenance future could be in mining then we might have a relevant opportunity for you if you hold the following:

  • Australian Recognised Trade in a relevant or equivalent role
  • C Class Drivers Licence (HR Desirable)
  • High Risk License Working at Heights, HR, CV, Dogging, Rigging, Fork Lift, Air Con Ticket  preferred
  • Extensive experience diagnosing, maintaining and repair/servicing a broad range of machinery/equipment of direct relevance
  • Strong heavy vehicle mechanical fitting maintenance competency
  • Diverse range of equipment experience with basic electrical/welding skills
  • Basic computer and diagnostic tooling skills
  • Strong presentation, coaching and communication skills
  • ISAP/Safety systems knowledge (advantage only)
  • Commitment to working FIFO arrangement
  • Self motivated and a team player

Trade qualified candidates with a maintenance background in Heavy Road/Construction/Agricultural and LV background will transfer well in this environment and role.
