Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Mine Technical Services is seeking an industry experienced, mining degree qualified Drill and Blast Engineer to join their team supporting the Hope Downs mining operation in the Pilbara.  This key role will be responsible for drill and blast design and planning activities to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of the mine plan.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, key responsibilities will include:

·         Creating effective drill patterns, electronic initiation and charging designs

·         Exploring new ways to increase drill and blast productivity

·         Effectively implement designs in the field

·         Operating drones for blast capture and visualisation technology for efficient drill unit performance tracking

This permanent position will be offered on a fly in, fly out work roster of 8 days on site and 6 days off, out of Perth. 

About you

With a tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, you will have demonstrated drill and blast experience gained within a large scale, open pit iron ore mining environment.  You will have proficient skills in using mining software such as Vulcan and Blast Plan and have demonstrated experience operating drone equipment in a mining environment.  Prior drill and blast design experience along with wall control and vibration modelling experience will be advantageous. 

A current C Class driver’s licence is essential and the ability to obtain and maintain a dangerous goods security card will be well regarded.   

You will have full and unrestricted eligibility for permanent employment in Australia.  The point of hire will be Perth and this position will suit a Perth resident or someone willing to relocate to Perth on a permanent basis.

The Hope Downs mine is an iron ore mining operation located 100 kms northwest of Newman, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia and comprises of Hope Downs 1 and Hope Downs 4.
