We are seeking experienced Drill Fitters to join our Deflector Mine site team.

Deflector Operation consists of two high-grade, narrow vein Gold/Copper mines, located 160 km east of Geraldton. The ore is contained in a series of structurally complex lodes, namely the Deflector and Deflector Southwest deposits.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Drill Fitter is responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, fault diagnosis, and servicing of surface and underground drill rigs and associated mining equipment. This role ensures maximum equipment availability and reliability, contributing to safe and efficient production outcomes.

This position will be offered on an 8:6, 7:7 or 2:2 FIFO roster from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton Including both day and night shifts.

Key Responsibilities of this Role Will Include:

  • Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on various drill rigs (e.g. Sandvik, Atlas Copco, Epiroc)
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic faults
  • Conduct breakdown repairs efficiently to minimise downtime
  • Work closely with mining department
  • Carry out component change-outs and rebuilds according to OEM specifications
  • Ensure accurate maintenance records and reports are completed
  • Assist with pre-start checks and field service activities
  • Follow site safety protocols, including risk assessments and JSAs
  • Liaise with supervisors and other trades to coordinate maintenance activities
  • Support continuous improvement by reporting defects and suggesting solutions
  • Maintain workshop and work area cleanliness and safe operating standards
  • Assist with other maintenance tasks as directed by the supervisor

About You

  • Trade qualified Heavy-Duty Diesel Fitter (Cert III in Mobile Plant Technology or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience working on drill rigs in mining or heavy industry
  • Our fleet will consist of Sandvik jumbos and longhole drills, Epiroc underground trucks, CAT boggers and graders, and a Volvo IT loader.
  • Sound knowledge of hydraulic systems, drill rig mechanics, and diesel engines
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics
  • Familiar with diagnostic tools and software (e.g. ET, SIS, DCU)
  • Basic electrical and auto-electrical fault identification (advantageous)
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills (desirable)
  • WA Manual Driver’s Licence (C-Class)
  • HRW Licence – Forklift
  • Working at Heights
