Earthworks Specialist

Work Location: Western Hub - Solomon and Eliwana 

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth (Tuesday-Tuesday)

An opportunity currently exists for an Earthworks Safety and Compliance Specialist to join our Strategic Planning team and work across all of Fortescue’s Pilbara operations. This position is responsible for ensuring earthmoving contractors are adhering to the required FMG HSE standards and policies as well as ensuring that all earthmoving equipment, plant and people are audited regularly.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Daily workplace inspections of all earthmoving activities 
  • Verification and validation of training competencies 
  • Scheduled earthmoving plant and equipment audits and pre-mobilisation inspections. 
  • Ensure earthmoving contractors and FMG are maintaining appropriate VOCs and training records  
  • Ensure compliance with FMG site specific OH&S policies, procedures, work instructions and reporting protocols
  • Assisting with the development of the FMG Resource Definition Earthworks Standard
  • Provide a consistent link with OEM’s and vendors to ensure adherence and prompt issue resolution 
  • Scheduled plant and equipment audits to ensure OEM standard is maintained 
  • Regular review of FMG and Contractor earthmoving procedures
  • Regular field interactions which will include Field Leadership, Plan Task Observations and Critical Control Monitoring

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of WA Mines Safety, Inspection Act and regulations and WorkSafe 
  • Experience working in earthmoving related fields, preferably open cut mining, however civil is also beneficial
  • Experience working in a supervisory position
  • Engineering or Trade qualifications are preferred but not essential 
  • High level of communication 
  • Any Earthmoving licences and VOC’s 
  • Current first aid 
  • Class C Manual WA Driver’s Licence 
  • 4WD Certificate
