Electrical and Automation Specialist - HME
Work Location: Perth, Fortescue Centre. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

The Role of the Electrical and Automation Specialist – HME is to provide technical support and recommendations for automation and electrical systems and components to improve the reliability and predictive maintenance tactics of HME (Heavy Mobile Equipment) fleet within FMG operations. This role also supports the broader business in the development and integration of HME electrification and automation technologies through the facilitation of the Continuous Improvement (CI) meetings and other functions.
A key responsibility of the role is to utilize deep technical knowledge and understanding of the HME automation and electrical systems to identify and drive initiatives improving asset health, reducing expenditure, and eliminating risk from operational assets. This role focusses heavily on leading the haul automation and electrical systems improvements whilst providing support to other fleets where required.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the sustainment and improvement of the haul fleet automation and electrical systems with support to all sites, ensuring that equipment is maintained in accordance with WOL plans, FMG and legislative standards.
- Lead continuous improvement of the haul fleet automation and electrical systems through the facilitation of Continuous Improvement (CI) and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) engagement meetings.
- Develop and implement WOL asset management strategies, tactics and documentation for electrical and autonomy systems within the HME fleet across FMG operations.
- Identify, investigate and implement safety, cost saving and quality improvement initiatives for HME fleet electrical system componentry and mobile autonomous systems across FMG operations.
- Work with broader team to integrate on-board machine hardware with remote monitoring systems and support RCA’s and DE’s.
- Support the development and integration of the electrification and automation of the HME fleet across FMG operations leading into operational electrical engineering support.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Mining and heavy mobile equipment and or autonomous fleet experience with at least 3 years-experience in an electrical, automation reliability engineering role.
- Practical knowledge of heavy mobile equipment automation systems. Knowledge of electrical ELV distribution systems.
- Strong conceptual thinking and analytical focus. Excellent problem-solving skills and continual improvement focus. Communication, Facilitation and Presentation skills.
- Knowledge of computer management systems (SAP, MS Office etc).
- Tertiary Qualifications in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering or relevant trade qualification with extensive experience in similar role.
