Electrical Engineer - Energy Operations

Work Location: Perth. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday - occasional site travel that may change the worked days 

Fortescue are looking for an electrical engineer who has experience in both high and low voltage electrical power systems, power management systems and applications, protection systems and general electrical compliance, good practice, rules, and regulations understanding.  In this role you will provide technical leadership and knowledge in the design, programming configuration and installation of the power system for Fortescue’s integrated power distribution and transmission network including the integration of renewable power generation, non-renewable generation and the new 220kV transmission network.

This is an excellent and varied opportunity to provide specialist technical services to enable the energy operations team to reliably maintain and operate Fortescue’s growing energy asset portfolio across the Pilbara.  The role demands a strong focus on teamwork to achieve required outcomes and the promotion of high engineering standards.

Key responsibilities include: (max 6 bullet points)

  • Assist Energy Operations teams in troubleshooting and engineering out issues within our power generation, distribution, and transmission systems
  • Review of electrical designs documents to give comments and guidance to standards and best practice.
  • Assist in providing specialist engineering solutions across a wide range of asset and life cycle issues and ensure technical asset integrity
  • Interfacing with other departments within Fortescue on behalf of Energy Operations to provide guidance, advice, and steer solutions
  • Managing small and assisting in large engineering investigations. These would cover new assets, major maintenance activities, failure investigations, reliability reviews, rectifications, and upgrade works.
  • Identify, assess, and manage operational risks associated with the field of work

Education and Experience: (max 6 bullet points)

  • Ability to work in a team and integrate with others in the work environment.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience operating in electrical, power generation and electrical supporting infrastructure environments
  • Strategic understanding of operation and maintenance requirements of electrical power infrastructure
  • Good power system analysis for fault investigations, protection system modelling and analysis for improvements
  • Ability to fluently interpret electrical drawings and documentation and the ability to alter and produce technical documentation
