About the Role

We are currently seeking expressions of interest for highly motivated Electrical Locomotive Maintainers who are interested in moving to Port Hedland and joining our Rolling Stock Maintenance residential teams on a 4 days on, 4 nights on, 8 off.  You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, repairing and overhauling the SD70 Ace locomotives.

Reporting to the Locomotive Overhaul Shop Supervisor your primary duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Overriding commitment to BHP Charter, health, safety, environment and sustainable development;
  • Maintain our fleet of locomotives including commissioning, fault finding and repair;
  • Adhere to specific maintenance processes as defined;
  • Work effectively with other maintenance team members, including contractors, to better understand and manage locomotive maintenance and resolve problems impacting locomotive availability
  • Ensure that all documentation and data entry is accurately completed;
  • Undertake periodic locomotive service and mid and end of life overhauls;
  • Have a defect elimination mindset  to reduce breakdowns, urgent or interrupt work which disturbs planned and scheduled work;
  • Accept a high level of ownership of maintenance activities and equipment;
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping.  Undertake housekeeping and safety inspections;
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement projects that result in higher levels of locomotive availability and workshop functionality;
  • Maintain a high level working knowledge of safety processes;
  • Strong commitment to the Field Leadership 
About Port Headland

Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is a large regional centre in North West Australia. The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities.

The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; an aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.

About You

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Australian recognised trade qualification– WA A grade electrical licence (Essential)
  • Well-developed understanding and experience of maintaining locomotives (Essential)
  • Technical knowledge of EM2000, ATP, Distributive Power, ECP, EMDEC and AC Traction (Highly desirable)
  • Interpret technical drawings
  • Maintenance and fault-finding experience  
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Experience using 1SAP, Fiori, LOC8 and Standardised Work maintenance systems
  • Forklift, Dogging, Rigging, EWP High Risk Work Licence  (Desirable)
  • Current manual C class drivers licence
