Our Utilities Maintenance team based onsite at Telfer are seeking a safety focused and reliable Electrical Technician to provide quality and timely electrical services, whilst acting in line with Newcrest values and safety standards.

Operations near and far

In the Great Sandy Desert in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia, our Telfer gold mine is our fly-in-fly-out operation, comprising both open pits and an underground mine. While at site Telfer offers a diverse range of recreational activities including a gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room and refurbished communal eatery.

Who we’re looking for

We are seeking a safety-conscious and diligent Electrical Technician to join our Utilities Maintenance department at Telfer, to support safe production, reliable operation, and longer-term integrity of the site.

Key deliverables include, but not limited to:

  • Maintenance of site wide water extraction networks, power distribution, building infrastructure, pipeline, laboratory instrumentation, sewage facilities and dump leach.
  • Report all observed safety incidents and hazards and recommend improvements
  • Ensure all incidents are reported as per Newcrest standards
  • Maintain high standards of performance and adopt a proactive approach to occupational health and safety issues
  • Assist with the quality/quantity output of the electrical team
  • Ensure work orders are correctly cost coded and completed
  • Attend daily production meetings as required by the electrical supervisor
  • Take an active interest in weekly and shutdown planning as required

As a hands-on and results-driven qualified Electrician, you will have the natural ability to multitask and problem-solve. Previous experience in utilities maintenance within a Gold Processing environment will be an advantage.

In addition to the above skills, you will also require:

  • WA Electrical Worker’s License
  • Proven post-trade experience with exposure to large scale Mining, Oil & Gas or Manufacturing operations
  • Full Class C Manual Driver’s Licence essential; HR Licence, Forklift ticket an advantage
  • LVR and CPR Training
  • Good Computer skills- previous experience using SAP will be highly regarded
  • HV Switching Ticket/Experience

Highly Desirable:

  • Overhead power line construction & maintenance.
  • HV Electrical testing and Transformer maintenance.
  • Power generation operation & maintenance.
  • Experience in bore field maintenance
  • De-watering operations
  • Sound knowledge of Acts, Regulations and Australian Standards

Please note: This is a permanent full-time role at our Telfer mine site, FIFO from Perth on 8 Days On/ 6 off roster. The role may be subject to unplanned shift work
