About the role

We have an opportunity for a High Voltage (HV) Electrical Maintainer to join the Cape Lambert Utilities Division. Rio Tinto Utilities is the electrical network operator and supplies power to the Mining, Port and residential assets in Cape Lambert and Wickham township. You’ll ensure our community has a safe and reliable electricity supply by constructing and maintaining transmission and distribution networks. You’ll respond quickly to faults to minimise disruptions, deliver high-quality work, and adapt to evolving industry standards. Working in various conditions, you’ll plan and execute tasks safely and efficiently. This role is offered as residential based in Wickham, Western Australia where FIFO from Perth will also be considered for the right applicant.

This role provides a diverse range of tasks involving assets and equipment, offering opportunities to broaden your work experience, including:

  • Transmission and Distribution Networks (11/33/132/220kV)

  • Low Voltage Networks

  • Water Treatment System Plant

  • SCADA/PLC

  • Fuel and Hydrocarbon Systems

Reporting to the Utilities Electrical Supervisor, the role will require you to: 

  • Promote electrical awareness and safe work practices

  • Attending and rectifying faults in a timely manner, ensuring minimal loss of supply and less disruption to the customer

  • Report on the asset condition and conduct inspections

  • Execute scheduled work plans and unplanned/breakdown work to utilities assets.

  • Engage in continuous improvement 

  • Update maintenance systems data (SAP)

  • Participating in pre-job planning to identify risks, hazards and task variables and control measures to ensure safe, reliable and affordable job completion.

  • Conduct work in compliance to all relevant Statutory Electrical Regulations and Australian Standards.

  • Instrumentation and flow control systems

  • Experience in investigation, recording, reporting and acting on outcomes from electrical reports, incidents, hazards and faults

About you 

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have the following: 

  • Western Australian Electrical Licence

  • W.A. Driver's Licence (C Class)

  • High Voltage Switching qualifications

  • Knowledge of PLC Control systems

  • Current First Aid, CPR and Low Voltage Rescue

  • A proactive approach and strong commitment to maintaining our safe working culture 

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • High Risk Licences: EWP/WP, Forklift (FL), Dogman (DG), Rigging (RG)

  • Experience in operations and maintenance of transformers, overhead transmission and distribution network and high voltage switching operations.

  • Proficiency in the use of technology inc. SAP and Microsoft365.

  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Discipline

  • Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas (EEHA) Training

Where you will be working 

Cape Lambert is North of the City of Karratha, close to the town of Wickham and supports amongst other things the port facilities, which consist of four shipping terminals located on the Pilbara coast at Dampier and Cape Lambert which form an essential part of our logistics process. Each terminal has facilities for train unloading, iron ore stockpiling, product blending and ship loading.
