Electrochemical Scientist
Work location: Dawson Rd., Perth Airport
Roster: Monday to Friday
Key responsibilities:
- Play an integral role in the development of prototype electrolysers through the careful selection of materials, design and implementation of selected electrodes and catalysts
- Setting up independent tests and data collection using key electrochemical methods like potentiostatic, galvanostatic, impedance measurements and rotating disk electrode (RDE) measurements supporting the selection, evaluation, and testing of electrode, membrane, and catalyst materials to maximise efficiency, reduce cost, improve sustainability supporting the production of lowest cost hydrogen on the planet
- Participate in a knowingly safe working environment

- Culture an enthusiastic and innovative lab environment
- Execute detailed testing programs collecting and presenting data to key stakeholders
- Execute standard electrochemical test using a potentiostat
- Support the selection, evaluation, and development of materials to support the efficient production of hydrogen. Safely and effectively handling of general chemical compounds
- Lead the establishment of an electrochemistry laboratory for the development and evaluation of materials for water electrolysis. Be the owner for all equipment in the relevant area; responsible for ensuring smooth functioning of equipment and all related documentation
- Develop analytical methods for process solutions used in metal deposition, coatings and other areas supporting the cutting edge of water electrolysis
- Interface with engineering group to translate basic research into commercial systems and applications
- Design, plan and conduct experiments and write technical report findings
- Ensure IP protection of developed methods and processes through translating scientific research into patents
- Closely align with the manufacturing team supporting the development of cost-effective manufacturing and quality control methods
Qualifications and skills required:
- Degree qualified in Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
- Experience with electrochemistry, battery research, electrocatalysis, fuel cell and electrolyser research, photovoltaics development or alike
- Strong knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical evaluation methods like potentiostatic, galvanostatic, impedance measurements and data fitting and rotating disk electrode (RDE) measurements using BioLogic or Gamry potentiostats is a must
- Solid experience in the definition, set-up, troubleshooting and operation of electrochemistry evaluation of electrodes, membranes, and catalysts
- Outgoing attitude with a passion for and commitment to delivering excellence
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects as well as participate in an integrated group in time sensitive situations
- An enthusiastic self-starter with a passion for learning and willing to have a crack will definitely succeed in this role
- Fluent spoken and written English language skills with additional foreign language skills advantageous
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft office, especially in excel to handle spreadsheets
