Located in the Great Sandy Desert in East Pilbara, Western Australia, Telfer is a fly in out fly out operation from Perth which recognizes the importance of work-life balance. Our comfortable, well furnished rooms include Foxtel, and our site offers quality food with healthy options, medical care, sports and recreation activities. Families are welcomed several times a year to open days to support our community feel at Telfer.
Who we’re looking for:
Reporting into the Senior Health Advisor, a permanent opportunity has arisen for an Emergency Paramedic who has sound clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills to determine clinical judgements and take appropriate action to provide emergency medical assessment, treatment and care in all areas of the Telfer Mine site & village. You will also be responsible for providing emergency medical care and treatment to individuals on Telfer public access Road (up to 100km) adjacent to the Mine.
The Emergency Paramedic will collaborate effectively with on-site medical personnel to deliver positive patient outcomes and have the ability to influence others to provide an appropriate & safe response to critical incident /emergency situations in a coordinated, predictable, measurable and consistent manner.
A few key responsibilities will include:
- Evaluating the patient’s condition on the scene and performing preliminary diagnosis, prior to transfer to Telfer Medical Centre
- Assess and triage patients, administering first aid and stabilising critical conditions
- Coordinate and facilitate medical evacuations when necessary, ensuring a smooth transfer to the nearest medical facility via RFDS
- Administer medications as per Poison Permit requirements and scope of practice
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all incidents and treatments.
- Coordinate with on-site RN medical teams and emergency services.
- Conduct health assessments and screening as required.
- Conduct drug and alcohol screening.
- Collaborate with mine site-based site Medical personnel, to conduct training sessions on first aid and emergency response procedures for site personnel
- Collaborate with mine site based site Medical personnel ,to conduct risk assessments and implement injury prevention measures
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations and Newcrest company policies
You will be safety-focused, team-oriented, enable and drive continuous improvement and be willing to strive for results, communicate effectively with all ERT/Medical Teams to ensure patient first focus and draw on appropriate knowledge, resources and skills in order to make professional judgements.

To be successful in the role you will possess several skills such as:
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Physically fit and ability to work in challenging environmental conditions.
- Experience in both underground and open cut settings (desirable)
- Experience in prehospital care and paramedical services in the resources industry (desirable)
Ideally, you will also have the following:
- Bachelor of Science - Paramedical Science, Bachelor of Paramedicine
- Current AHPRA registration
- Proven experience as a Paramedic in a mining or industrial setting
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
- Manual drivers licence (Essential)
- Operate and maintain 4WD (Desirable)
- Drive Vehicles under operational requirements (Desirable)
- Road Crash Rescue and Fire Team Operations (Desirable)
Please note: This is a full-time permanent role at our Telfer mine site, FIFO from Perth on 8 days on 6 days off roster.
