Cannington is one of the world's largest and lowest-cost producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometers west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville.
Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.
About the role
Reporting to the Emergency Response Coordinator and as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), you will play a key role in Cannington’s emergency management structure and would be required to respond to incidents at any point during your rostered work hours. [YA1] Cannington has a dynamic, permanent emergency response team which is supplemented and supported by volunteer Emergency Response Team members. These volunteers take on ERT responsibilities in addition to their substantive roles from various departments across the operation.
The ERO role provides maintenance to all surface and underground operational Portable Fire Equipment (PFE), height safety equipment and ERT critical equipment. EROs will participate in all allocated training sessions and manage mine rescue volunteers as required. The ERO role will require you to obtain the RII30719 Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue, as part of this training course you will participate in operations such as, but not limited to:
- Closed circuit regenerative breathing apparatus (BG4 and Proair)
- Open circuit breathing apparatus
- Fire operations
- Hazmat operations
- Rope rescue
- Confined space rescue
- Road crash rescue/ vehicle extrication
This role falls under the ERT leadership team, and the successful candidate must be able to work and communicate across all levels of the organisation with an ability to adapt to changing mine priorities and plans.
This is a permanent position, working an 8/6 Thursday to Thursday day shift roster (12.5 hours shifts), FIFO available from either Townsville or Brisbane or DIDO from Mt Isa area.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Respond to emergencies
- Participate in IMT when required
- Maintain portable fire equipment (Extinguishers, hose reels, eye wash stations)
- Service and maintain emergency response equipment
- Facilitate emergency response team debriefs following training exercises
- Liaise with vendors regarding supply of emergency response equipment and services
- Inspect/ resupply underground fresh air chambers and emergency ladderways
- Adherence to safety matrix and hazard identification in line with position requirements
- Review emergency management plans
About you
Ideally you will possess or be willing to obtain:
- Cert IV pre-hospital care
- Cert III Mine Emergency Response and Rescue (RII30719)
- Enterprise Trainer & Assessor Skill Set (TAESS00015)
- Certificate IV Training & Assessment (TAE40116) highly regarded
- QBCC Fire Equipment Inspection License
- S123 (QMS) Site Supervisor, Work at Heights, First Aid & CPR certificate
- High Risk Work Licenses highly regarded (rigging & forklift)
- 2+ years experience in a mine rescue or industry equivalent
- Basic to intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)
- High level of organisational skills including the capacity to set priorities and work to dynamic deadlines.
