We are looking for an Emergency Services Officer to work as part of the sites Emergency Services team. The main purpose of this role is to provide emergency services to the Gove Operations and surrounding areas where required. This role is a great opportunity for an individual who has a strong work ethic and a ‘can do’ attitude.

Working a 12hr day, 4 on 4 off rotating roster and reporting to the Advisor Emergency Response, your responsibilities include:

• Responding to emergency incidents across the Gove Operations
• Support the site Injury management process
• Assist in the implementation of the Site Security Plan
• Assist in the training of Rio Tinto Gove's Emergency Response Team and employees
• Assist Local Emergency Services in responding to fire and rescue emergencies within the Gove Township and surrounding areas when required
• Administering the site alcohol and other drugs sampling program
• Maintain and develop Emergency Response & HSE policies, procedures, standards
• Assist in the maintenance of emergency response vehicles, equipment and facilities
• Ensuring all work is undertaken in accordance with Rio Tinto’s operating procedures
• Fostering a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement

What you will bring

We are willing to develop people into the role who may have come from a Emergency Response Volunteer background within the mining industry or are starting their career in mining and have a solid emergency services background. To be successful in the role you will demonstrate the following skills:

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
• Demonstrated previous emergency response experience within mining / heavy industry preferred such as
• Cert III Mines Rescue highly desirable
• Demonstrated experience/qualifications in conducting Drug & Alcohol Testing is highly desirable
• A current Class MRdriver’s license mandatory
• A positive safety record and excellent customer service skills 

Desirable qualifications which we are willing to train you in if you do not have:

• Cert IV Healthcare (Ambulance), equivalent or higher
• Workplace Trainer and Assessor (Certificate IV TAE)
• Certificate II – Northern Territory Crowd Control & Security
• A current Class MRdriver’s license mandatory

It would be beneficial if you have or willing to obtain the following:

• Marine Security Identification Card (MSIC)
• Computer skills in office packages
• Written and verbal communication skills

Where you will be working

Our Gove Operations have been supplying the global aluminium industry with world-class bauxite for more than 40 years. Located in Australia’s Northern Territory, each year the operation produces approximately 12 million tonnes of bauxite.

With a workforce of 460 people, daily activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, shutdown planning and execution, export operations, cultural heritage management, and closure activities following our decision to close the site’s alumina refinery and associated Residue Disposal Area in 2017. 

We expect our bauxite mining operations on the Gove Peninsula will cease in 2030 and we are undertaking significant work to support closure of the operation. We also recognise our operations take place on Indigenous-owned land, and we are committed to working together to achieve a positive future for Nhulunbuy and the Gove Peninsula post-mining.
