We are looking for an Emergency Services Officer to work as part of the sites Emergency Services team. The main purpose of this role is to provide emergency services to the Weipa Amrun Operations and surrounding areas where required. This role is a great opportunity for an individual who has a strong work ethic and a ‘can do’ attitude.

Working a 12hr day on a 7&7 roster and reporting to the Emergency Services Supervisor, your responsibilities include:
Responding to emergency incidents across the Weipa Northern/Southern Operations, township and nearby communities
Support the Site Injury Management process
Assist in the training of Rio Tinto Weipa Emergency Response Team members
Facilitate the site alcohol and other drugs donor selection and sample collection process
Maintain and develop Emergency Response Guidelines and HSE policies, procedures and standards
Assist in the maintenance of emergency response vehicles, equipment and facilities
Ensuring all work is undertaken in accordance with Rio Tinto’s operating procedures
Fostering a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement
Comply with Culturally and Environmental obligations.
What you will bring

We are willing to develop people into the role who may have come from a Emergency Response Volunteer background within the mining industry or are starting their career in mining and have a solid emergency services background. To be successful in the role you will demonstrate the following skills:
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Demonstrated previous emergency response experience within mining, heavy industry, and/or Government Emergency Services Sector
Manual, MR Truck License (Mandatory).
Cert III Public Safety or Emergency Response and Rescue (Mandatory)
Demonstrated experience/qualifications in conducting Drug & Alcohol Testing is highly desirable
Certificate IV in Healthcare
It would be beneficial if you have or willing to obtain the following:
Certificate II in Fire Protection, inspection and Testing
Enter and Work in Confined Spaces

Where you will be working
Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tons of bauxite.
Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce—including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.
The development of our new mine, Amrun, which was completed in 2018, will extend the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly build on our 55-year history on the Western Cape.
