Energy Analyst

Work Location: Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Roster: Monday - Friday

The Energy Analyst is part of the Strategic Planning team in the Energy Operations Department in Fortescue Metals Group. In this role, you will support a broad range of business activities, including the development and operation of sophisticated models and tools to support Energy Operations and other stakeholders.

The role also involves benchmarking, technical commercial modelling, financial and commercial forecasting and efficiency improvements across the Energy Operations energy portfolio. You will be involved in modelling Power Purchase Agreements and generation optimization, including operating and maintenance cost modelling.

You should have a passion for solving complex analysis work, ideally with experience in the energy or mining industry. You should be comfortable taking ownership of internal and external client engagements from beginning to end of the task.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop, maintain and operate sophisticated models and analysis tools
  • Analyse large set of data from key business activities and drivers
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the internal operations and renewable energy market.
  • Determine key valuation parameters, perform scenario analysis necessary to evaluate Power Purchase Agreement (IRR, NPV and etc,)
  • Support the quarterly forecasting process
  • Deliver analysis through written reports and presentations.
  • Identify and drive process improvements, operations optimisation, and the creation of standard and ad-hoc reports.
  • Support other ad-hoc tasks as required to support decision making.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, finance, economics, engineering) essential
  • Previous business analyst / consulting experience in a similar role within mining or energy industry
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial statements and conduct financial modelling.
  • High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
  • Track record of delivering detailed quantitative analysis using advance Excel capabilities
  • Understanding of large planning models (eg, Anaplan or TM1)
  • Comfortable working autonomously in a complex environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
  • Experience with PowerBi would be advantageous
