We are looking for an Engineer – Fire Systems to join the Asset Management and Engineering Services Fixed Plant team at our Perth Operations Centre to provide technical expertise to the wider business at Rio Tinto Iron Ore.
This is a great opportunity to drive improvement of fire protection systems across the Iron Ore portfolio. The wide influence of the role requires stakeholder engagement from all areas of the business to ensure fire protection systems are managed effectively.
Reporting to the Specialist Fire Systems and working in a collaborative team environment, you will be responsible for:
- Development of maintenance strategies for fire protection assets;
- Development and execution of fire systems asset strategy including capital planning;
- Development and management of fire system baseline data;
- Gap assessment of existing assets and development of rectification plans to be executed by relevant teams;
- Support business assurance processes related to asset protection and management of fire protection systems;
- Technical support for the integrated fire systems maintenance contract including management of fire system defects;
- Supporting existing operations with technical assistance, guidance and governance;
- Support greenfields and brownfields projects with technical advice and governance;
- Maintain awareness and understanding of national and international fire protection standards.
- Maintain awareness of changing fire protection technologies and their application.
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team;
- Experience in fire systems design and maintenance is recommended but not essential, candidates with a desire to be mentored by an experience fire systems professional are invited to apply;
- Tertiary qualification of Bachelor of Engineering or equivalent; (Preferred not essential);
- A Current "C Class " WA Driver’s license;
- An ability to convert technical knowledge into practical instruction;
- Demonstrable experience in whole-of-life asset management;
- Strong interpersonal skills, including good oral and written skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, able to build relationships with partners in a complex, matrix organisation;
- Strong ability to positively influence people in an organisation.
Previous experience working in a mining operation is not essential – we appreciate asset management experience gained through other industries.
Where you will be working
Perth-based at either the Operations Centre (OC) or Central Park offices, with ad hoc site travel
