We are looking for an engineer who will specialize in supporting the implementation of the D7 (Functional Safety) standard and processes that provide the management of Major Hazards across a diverse range of Assets - Fixed Plant, Heavy Mobile, Port and Rail assets within Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore Pilbara operations.

In addition, this role will be responsible to:

  • Provide technical support to implement and assure the D7 standard (Functional Safety), systems and processes
  • Ensure the appropriate systems and processes are in place, maintained and are having an impact to manage Major Hazards
  • Coach end users on the requirements within the Functional Safety standard and how to meet these requirements
  • Facilitate collaboration, feedback and drive continuous improvement to achieve the right outcomes for the site
  • Promoting safety in design and provide governance
  • Participate in incident investigations and management of change, recommend actions - to drive improvements and prevent recurrences

What you will bring

  • Have greater than 3 years practical experience within the Mining/Oil and Gas/ Petroleum Industry in a site operational or technical role
  • Engineering qualification applied in an Operational environment (BEng in Chemical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Control System or Electrical Engineering
  • CFSP, TUV Engineer (desirable)
  • Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with site leaders and operational stakeholders
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Ability to provide coaching and mentoring and relate to and interact with all levels within the organization
  • Able to translate technical or theoretical concepts into practical and relatable operational outcomes
  • Be resilient, proactive, and self-motivated with the ability to drive progress and change within a dynamic environment

Where you will be working

Our integrated iron ore network is supported by our Operations Centre (OC) in Perth, a state-of-the-art facility that enables all the autonomous trucks, trains and drills at our mines, ports and rail systems to be operated from a single location. The Centre incorporates visualisation and collaboration tools to provide real-time information across our demand chain and allows us to optimise our mining, maintenance and logistic activities across the Pilbara in a way never before possible. Located near the Perth domestic airport, the OC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to coordinate our integrated network of mines, rail, and ports from 1,500km away.
