A truly unique opportunity exists for an experienced Water Management Engineer or Advisor to join our Mine Water Management Operations Team at Brockman 4.

This is your chance to develop and strengthen your long or short-term planning skills for Rio Tinto’s Maintenance Optimisation Projects. You will also develop and manage productivity and cost improvement initiatives for the site, while driving the implementation of the MWM plan. You will also ensure that MWM infrastructure is implemented and operated to achieve the approved standard of performance to enable safe mining, environmentally compliant, and sustainable operation.

This role is an integral part of the MWM team offering plenty of opportunities for your development. This role will allow you to expand your knowledge of all functions within an operational mining environment and gain invaluable experience to continue growing your operational engineering career.

Reporting to the Mine Water Management (MWM) Superintendent, you will:

  • Adhere to all Rio Tinto Health and Safety standards, policies and procedures and report any safety hazards and risks to the appropriate channels
  • Support improvement projects relating to network optimisation (pumps, pipework, metering), ‘supply’ projects and other projects within network (i.e. discharge network, metering) as the Sustaining Capital project interface
  • Consistently identifies opportunities to improve and socialises these accordingly
  • Able to lead initiatives and incorporate appropriate risk management frameworks
  • Conformance to quarterly plans
  • Up-to-date network schematic including key offtakes and infrastructure locations
  • Operational water balance metered within 10% health, including main water users (plant, dust suppression, discharge points etc)
  • Improvements in defect elimination, non-compliance, non-conformance from an asset performance perspective
  • Demonstrated improvement in site-wide water efficiency

This position is based at our Brockman 4 site working on a fly in, fly out roster 8 days on, 6 days off.

About you

The right candidate must have demonstrated operational exposure in mine water management, mine operations or technical mining engineering roles within a large open pit mining environment.

In addition, you will have:

  • A good understanding of the fundamental concepts that underpin value in the MWM and mining industry space
  • Exceptional relationship building skills coupled with your ability to engage and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of business partners will also ensure your success in this role
  • A manual ‘C’ class driver’s license
  • A degree or tertiary qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering is desirable
