About the role

Join our inclusive and diverse MP&E function here at Rio Tinto, as a Mine Water Management Engineer. We have two unique opportunities. FIFO from Perth to West Angelas and FIFO from Perth to Hope Downs 4.

These unique roles will see you Provide technical assistance, support, and expert advice on continuous improvement practices across Mine Water Management. Includes developing, coaching and mentoring other professionals and supporting the decision-making processes of leadership.

Reporting to the MP&E Engineering Superintendent, you will be responsible for the below duties :

  • Adhere to all Rio Tinto health and safety standards, policies and procedures and report any safety hazards and risks to the appropriate channels

  • Actively foster and communicate a positive safety culture to promote safety awareness and compliance, encouraging prioritisation of safety in all activities and operations

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities utilising a range of Rio Tinto best practices

  • Collaborate closely with other functions and stakeholders in the performance of duties

  • Support improvement projects relating to network optimisation (pumps, pipework, metering), Sub $2m projects and other projects within network (i.e. discharge network, metering) act as the Sustaining Capital project interface

  • Lead business improvement projects for the Mine Water Management team with a specific focus on safety, productivity and asset utilisation

  • Utilise accurate data analysis to drive cost reductions and efficiencies

  • Coordinate and support productivity initiatives within the Mine Water Management team and establish best practice

  • Provide technical support to the Mine Water Management team members to ensure optimisation of the mine plan

  • Support in network and system optimisation including pump and pipeline hydraulics, MoC and maintenance of network schematic

  • Maintain suitable levels of inventory to ensure that mine water management requirements can be executed

  • Ensure clear, defined and documented inspection schedule for the water management infrastructure including a defect, non-compliance or non-conformance escalation process

  • Provide technical support for PM02/PM03 scope development

  • Perform basic investigations and conduct equipment failure analysis, implementing corrective actions as required.

  • Contribute to loss analysis with a specific focus on maintenance cost, MTTR and maintenance efficiency (tool time)

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: 

  • Experience in a similar role with some operational experience

  • Ability to work collaboratively in small teams or independently and demonstrate adaptability

  • Experience in Defect Elimination processes and Root Cause Analysis

  • Experience in delivering Continuous Improvement initiatives and projects

  • Demonstrate understanding of budget preparation, asset criticality, cost drivers, asset risk, asset performance and asset life cycles

  • Demonstrated knowledge of SAP or equivalent CMMS

  • Lean Six Sigma methodology experience or Black Belt Certification advantageous.

  • A Bachelor of Engineering in relevant discipline or other relevant technical field experience

  • Current ‘C’ Class Driver's License (Manual)

Where you’ll be working

These roles will be offered on a 5/2 – 4 / 3 roster, FIFO from Perth, Broome or  Busselton.

West Angelas : Located 110km west of Newman, West Angelas operates on a fly in fly out roster from Perth, Broome and Busselton.

West Angelas is a pioneer in autonomous technologies – we were the first site to trial autonomous haul trucks and incorporate autonomous drilling into our operations in 2008, and we continue to have one of the largest mining fleets in the Pilbara.

Our high grade, low phosphorous Marra Mamba orebody is an integral part of the Pilbara Blend, contributing both lump and fines products on around four trains each day. At the West Angelas hub there are state-of-the-art power generation and refueling facilities. These facilities supply power and diesel fuel to the East Pilbara mine sites.

The future is bright at West Angelas with ongoing growth projects at Deposits C and D, as well as additional deposits under study providing enormous opportunities for personal development and career growth.

Hope Downs 4 : Located 50km north-west of Newman, Hope Downs 4 is a joint venture managed and operated by Rio Tinto, working in conjunction with nearby site Hope Downs 1. Hope Downs 4 provides excellent career growth and opportunities and the village provides excellent facilities for its FIFO workers.
