We are currently seeking a Mine Production Engineer to consistently provide reliable, accurate and sustainable mine planning services and support in order to position Mining and Plant operations for optimal performance.

The principal role accountability is to produce the Weekly Plan with the aim of maintaining planned grades and production tonnes. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, the main components of achieving the minimum required standard include:

• Producing accurate mine scheduling information for integrated operations.
• Completing production area maps for grade control.
• Communicating planning material to Mine Planning, Mine and Plant Operations and Field Maintenance personnel
• Providing relevant maps (dump floor, dumps, parent shapes, clearing, accesses, development, ancillary tasks) and machine guidance files as required to implement dig and dump plans.
• Completing and communicating weekly plan reconciliation.
• Liaising with Supervisors and Superintendents to ensure plan implementation.
• Managing plan deviations to maintain grades and tonnes. Ensure such changes are properly communicated to peers and direct report.
• Maintaining effective communication between site and peers.

What you’ll bring

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
• 2 years’ experience as a short term mine planning engineer
• Experience in planning for bauxite operations would be highly regarded
• Detailed understanding of Truck / Loader scheduling and operation
• Practical understanding of all other mining design, scheduling, and operation
• Basic understanding of supply chain management.
• Sound level of proficiency in basic business software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint or similar)
• Basic proficiency in business management software (SAP or similar)
• High level of proficiency in CAD mining software, preferably Deswik and / or similar
• Excellent numerical analysis and data validation skills
• Knowledge of relevant mining legislation and industry practices

Rio Tinto Weipa is located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria and has been operating for over 50 years. Construction of the Amrun mining operation, located 40 kilometers southwest of Weipa, was completed in late 2018 expanding our bauxite operations to continue production from one of the world’s premier bauxite deposits.
