About the Role
BHP Iron Ore is one of the world’s leading suppliers of iron ore. The Company’s operations currently involve an integrated system of seven inland mines, an extensive rail network and two separate port facilities.
We are seeking a talented Mining Professional to join our inclusive and high performing team in Perth as a Principal or Specialist – Mine Planning studies. You will provide mine planning guidance to the business through our strategic Mine Planning studies with a focus on the following:
- Defining, developing and supporting Mine Planning studies;
- Plan, develop and manage study deliverables to achieve high value outcomes for customers;
- Setting strategic Mine Planning studies to align with the requirements of BHP Purpose and Strategy and WAIO Resource Engineering (RE) Vision and are built into mine plans produced by WAIO RE Mine Planning team.
- Identify and develop strategic thinking in Mine Planning team and talent pipeline for Strategic Planning;
- Shaping and supporting communication of Strategic Mine Planning studies outcomes to stakeholders;
- Process definition, governance and improvement of mine planning software used by the Strategic Mine Planning team to support;
- Supporting our journey to be an increasingly inclusive, diverse and highly capable team
- Identify opportunities to optimise value, manage associated risks and appy Optimised With/Optimised Without framework principles to creae and preserve maximum value from projects.

Location
You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including quiet rooms, breakout spaces and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues. There is an in-house crèche available in the building, and external childcare services within the Brookfield Place precinct.
About You
We have a strong focus on finding individuals with the right values, leadership capability, and communication skills. Your interpersonal skills will foster collaborative working relationships across our Geoscience, Engineering, Studies and Operational Teams. In addition to a demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude and have access to technology that will enable you to work flexibly, which is key to BHP’s success in addressing the requirements of a diverse workforce.
To be successful in this role, you will have planning experience in mining and resources and be able to demonstrate excellence in two or more of the following:
- Open Pit Optimisation and Scheduling
- Use of planning tools and applications to deliver on a strategy
- Demonstrated delivery and completion of complex technical projects, including scoping, prefeasibility and definitive feasibility studies
- Process definition and governance
- Building capability in others
- Experience with leading new technology studies/projects highly desirable
