ABOUT Cannington
Our Cannington operation is one of the world's largest producers of silver and lead. Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a permanent position on a 4:3, 4:3, 8:6 roster, FIFO from Townsville, Cairns and Brisbane or DIDO from Mount Isa with up to 50% work from home arrangement.
The role of the Engineer Planning is to undertake strategic and operational mine planning that facilitates execution of the mine plan. Giving careful consideration for the operating environment which exists at Cannington, this execution is to be carried out in a safe and sustainable fashion. Also ensuring the mining operation has well designed plans to direct safe and efficient production from the underground resource.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:
- Create development designs in a timeframe which facilitates timely execution by the Mining team.
- Create stope shapes, drill and blast strategies and filling strategies for the Operations Engineering team
- Work with the Geology and Geotechnical teams to ensure plans delivered are suitable for the prevailing geological and geotechnical environments
- Undertake regular work on mining sequences and preliminary stope shapes to ensure mining blocks are following key value drivers
- Communicate risk to the mine plan due to planning related issues or variances
- Undertake continuous mine planning improvement requirements, to improve safety, increase profitability and control costs
- Reduce risk utilising appropriate safety systems and through regular contributions which identify or eliminate hazards, improve controls, and eliminate or reduce exposures
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- In depth understanding of underground hard rock drill and blast in principal and in practice.
- Planning skills which leverage value and risk-based decision making
- Use historical stope performance to improve future stope designs
- Sound software skills, preferably with Deswik experience
Qualifications for this position are:
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (or similar)
